Is wood a good surface choice?
Yes. Wood is a traditional and classic countertop choice that is ideal as a countertop surface because of its elegance and durability. Available in many colors and grain patterns, wood countertops will last a lifetime.
Can bacteria get into the wood?
Wood countertops are less porous that natural stone, so they inherently repel bacteria. Craft-Art Direct countertops are also protected by Tung-oil finish, which helps keep bacteria out. As with any countertop, you must wash and disinfect it as well.
How do I clean the countertop?
Wood can easily be cleaned with mild, non-ammonia soap. Simply rinse, and disinfect with a 20% white vinegar/water solution.
Are wood countertops easy to maintain?
Very easy. Aside from cleaning the top, you will have to apply oil every two to three years, depending on use. This takes about one hour.
Are Craft-Art Countertops covered by a warranty?
We offer a limited warranty that covers all manufacturing defects. In addition, we offer a lifetime warranty on the glue seams.
Can a sink be put in a wood countertop?
Yes, sinks can be put in a Craft-Art Direct countertop because it has been finished with penetrating waterproof oil.
Is wood heat and stain resistant?
Yes! Wood countertops resist red wine, mustard and other substances that usually stain and are extremely heat resistant as well. Our countertops have been tested for heat-resistance with cookware straight from ovens and stovetops without any damage. However, we do recommend that you place a pad under hot cookware before placing them on the countertop.
Can I use wood for vanity tops in the bathroom?
Yes, we make vanity tops that look classic and elegant in any bathroom setting.
Are there any eco-friendly options for wood countertops?
Craft-Art Direct offers many wood species that come from Sustainably Managed Forests in North American Hard Wood forests and are LEED-certified.

Sustainable forest management uses very broad social, economic and environmental goals. A range of forestry institutions now practices various forms of sustainable forest management using a variety of methods and tools that have been tested over time.

What are the size limitations of a steel and wood table?
Practically speaking, there really are no limitations from a structural viewpoint. There may, however be limitations caused by access to the home or office. When we believe that this may be a problem, we make the base so that it ships in pieces that are then assembled in place by the delivery service. Assembly is done with large machine screws that are not visible.
Do you see the welding on the steel tables?
On our industrial line, yes the welds are somewhat visible. However we always weld on the inside edges and the weld bead is very small and hard to notice.
Can the steel be different sizes?
Yes, depending on the style of the furniture piece, the steel will be anywhere from 1-1/4” thick to ¾”. Weight does become an issue when using thicker bar stock. However we install glides on all legs, which make the tables easy to move. On some pieces, like kitchen food preparation tables, we can also install castors.
What if I want a something made a specific color?
Custom colors are available. We use extruded aluminum stock, which is powder coated with the color you choose. Powder coating is a glasslike powder that is applied to metal that has been heated to high temperature. It is very durable.
What If something gets broken while being shipped?
If this happens, the delivery service will return the table base to us and we will repair it as new or replace it and reship it to you.
Do you make chairs or beds?
Not at the present time; perhaps sometime in 2010. However, if you have an idea you would like to explore, call us.
Can I get samples of the metal choices?
Yes, you can order samples for $15 each. You will be credited with the cost of the samples (less shipping) when they are returned.
